WThe United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) was established by the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) in 1958 as one of the UN´s five regional commissions. UNECA promotes the economic and social development of the region through integration and cooperation between member states. Thanks to this commission, African countries can analyze their real needs and emerging global challenges. UNECA also places emphasis on supporting efforts to eradicate poverty and placing African Continent on the path of growth and sustainable development.
The pillars that work as a basis for this commission are: Regional Integration, Trade and Infrastructure, Poverty Reduction, Sustainable Development, Promotion of good governance and Popular Participation. UNECA also tries to reinforce the paper of Technology and Statistics in the development of the continent. UNECA aims to play a significant role reporting the progress of the region and through the review of the economic policies, enhancing partnerships, providing technical assistance, promoting communication and knowledge sharing, and organizing Sub-regional activities.
